Where Heaven and Earth converge in spiritual harmony
Amidst the tranquil landscape of Hàm Ninh – where the sea embraces the ancient fishing village and daily life flows in rhythm with the waves and ocean breeze – the “Cửu Long Triều Vũ” Fountain rises as a sacred emblem of harmony between nature, culture, and feng shui philosophy.
Cửu Long, or "Nine Dragons," evokes the image of the nine great tributaries of the Mekong Delta, a land enriched by alluvial deposits, cultural essence, and historical depth. In Eastern cosmology, the dragon is the supreme sacred creature, symbolizing authority, prosperity, and divine blessing. From a geomantic perspective, “Cửu Long” also suggests a convergence of "long mạch" – vital energy veins of the land – where heaven and earth gather their spirit.
The dragon pillars are crafted with great care using traditional unglazed ceramic techniques. Each module is molded and fired by hand, then securely assembled onto a reinforced concrete core using an embedded hook system—ensuring both artistic value and structural endurance against the coastal winds and time. The surrounding pool and paved area are clad in Thanh Hóa green stone—rustic yet resilient—blending seamlessly with the natural coastal setting.
Triều Vũ, or "Tide and Surge," evokes the call of tidal waves and the ceaseless movement of water—the primordial element that gives rise to all things. The sound of waves reflects the breath of the ocean, the eternal vitality of nature, and the perpetual flow of time. The water jet system is discreetly integrated within the dragon pillars, ensuring a continuous stream that animates the space with vital energy. A ring of uplighting and accent lighting embedded along the pool edge and atop the dragons transforms the entire fountain into a radiant jewel at night—glowing where the land meets the sky.
The surrounding landscape is planted with native coastal flora—bougainvillea, sea poison trees, beach spider lilies—alongside symbolic trees such as frangipani and paperbark, creating a setting that feels both grounded and sacred.
“Cửu Long Triều Vũ” is not merely a work of urban sculpture, but a spiritual invocation to the heavens and earth—for Hàm Ninh’s lasting peace, Phú Quốc’s flourishing prosperity, and for this place to remain a wellspring of fortune, sacred energy, and enduring vitality for generations to come.
The fountain stands 6 meters tall. The central dragon pillars - with a diameter of 1.2 meters - surround a circular fountain basin 5.5 meters across, situated prominently at the Bến Hàm Ninh crossroads. The dragon figures, inspired by the Lý Dynasty style—graceful, refined, quintessentially Vietnamese - encircle a radiant gem at the center, re-enacting an ancient ceremonial offering: the harmonious unification of heaven, earth, and humanity.
An inscription beneath the offering reads:
To the Jade Emperor,
The Three Sovereigns of Heaven,
The Eastern Radiance of the Four Seas,
The Five Joyous Realms of the West,
The Spirits that Guard the Sacred Lands,
May the Nine Dragons rise,
May the spirits of Lý soar,
May the celestial and maritime realms converge,
And may our prayers be answered:
To protect the people,
To bless the land,
And to usher in prosperity above decline.
