THE GREEN ECONOMIC COMPLEX SOLVES TO LOCAL LABOR PROBLEMS IN NINH THUAN

BIM Group's green economic complex model is currently creating jobs for more than 1,000 employees, of which more than 80% are workers in Thuan Nam district, focusing on salt mining.

Many local workers are still struggling

Ms. Tran Thi Ninh wakes up every day at 4 am, and go to Ca Na beach to scrape coral debris. A day of raking coral, soaking for 7-8 hours in sea water, Ninh and her daughter collected 4 to 6 bags and sold them to wholesalers for 1,200-1,500 VND/kg. This income is still not enough for her family of 5.

Jobs for locals in Ninh Thuan are increasingly difficult when many wind power projects stop working and stop using local workers.

About 80% of jobs created in the electricity industry come from the construction and installation phase

Under the variable renewable energy (VRE) scenarios, about 80% of the jobs created in the power sector, come from the construction and installation phase. For wind and solar power, around 25% of jobs will go to skilled workers, through vocational and university training.

Ninh Thuan is a province with high temperatures, high radiation intensity, and ideal conditions for the development of renewable power sources from wind and solar. In 2018, BIM Group saw an opportunity to develop a model of a renewable energy complex combining industrial salt production here.

In 2016, taking advantage of the stable thermal radiation source of Ninh Thuan province, BIM Group applied the technology of "covering with canvas to cover the rain" to increase the output of Quan The salt fields to 300,000 tons/year, contributing 60 % of industrial salt production in Vietnam. But it is not until October 2021, when the BIM Wind Power Plant comes into operation, that this corporation officially completes the first stage in the process of realizing its sustainable development strategy, optimizing the exploitation of the world. The area of 2,500 ha, both producing industrial salt and combining clean energy with a total investment of VND 12,000 billion. BIM Group's wind and solar power plants have a total capacity of nearly 500 MW.

Creating jobs in a sustainable way

Replicating the green economic complex model is a positive solution to create more jobs for local people. In fact, BIM Group's complex is currently handling more than 1,000 employees, of which more than 80% are workers in Thuan Nam district, focusing on salt mining.

During his visit and working session in Ninh Thuan province in April 2022, the Prime Minister highly appreciated the creativity and effectiveness of this new model and asked localities and businesses to research and expand the model. exploit and make the best use of resources on the basis of harmonizing the interests of the State, investors, and locals.

In fact, Ninh Thuan is still a laggard province, industrial development has only just begun amid a boom in renewable power projects. Dr. Tran Du Lich, Head of Consulting Group on Development Cooperation in the Central Coast region, at the conference in May 2022, commented that sunshine and wind are "static advantages" of Ninh Thuan in attracting investment into the renewable energy industry.

The complex of a green economy with renewable energy combined with industrial salt production of BIM Group in Ninh Thuan

Currently, Ninh Thuan is working hard on its plan to become a major energy center in Vietnam. Mr. Nguyen Hau Huu - Director of BIM Group's wind power project said that BIM Group is aiming to develop a system of training and operating high-tech labor. Mr. Hau estimated: “A 50 MW solar power plant will use around 20 employees working in the operation phase, equivalent to 0.4 jobs/MW. Thus, about 20 GW of capacity Vietnam installed within 20 years will be equivalent to 160,000 jobs. The 20 GW figure is approximately the installed capacity of solar power in the period 2019-2020, including rooftop solar power.”
