BIM ENERGY AND EVOLUTION DATA CENTRES SIGN MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING ON RENEWABLE ENERGY SUPPLY FOR DATA CENTER IN HO CHI MINH CITY
Hanoi, Vietnam - December 1, 2025
BIM Energy - a member of BIM Group and one of Vietnam’s pioneering renewable energy developers and Evolution Data Centres (EDC), a sustainable data center platform in Southeast Asia, have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to cooperate on the supply of renewable electricity through the Direct Power Purchase Agreement (DPPA) mechanism.
Mr. Nguyen Hai Vinh, General Director of BIM Energy (fourth from the left), and Mr. Darren Webb, Co‑founder and Chief Executive Officer of Evolution Data Centres, at the Memorandum of Understanding signing ceremony.
The agreement aims to supply green energy from BIM Energy’s solar and wind power projects to a large-scale data center that EDC is developing in the Ho Chi Minh City, with an estimated total investment of approximately USD 500 million. The power demand for this facility is expected to range from 50 to 100 MW, serving cloud computing platforms, AI infrastructure and advanced technology applications that require stringent standards for clean energy.
DPPA - A Key Milestone for Vietnam’s Green Digital Infrastructure
Under the MoU, both parties will jointly evaluate technical and commercial options to deploy the DPPA mechanism, allowing EDC to purchase renewable electricity directly from BIM Energy through the national power grid. This marks one of Vietnam’s pioneering steps in enabling a domestic energy developer to supply clean electricity directly to an international data center operator - a sector experiencing rapid growth across Southeast Asia.
As Ho Chi Minh City pursues its ambition to become a regional hub for high technology, semiconductors and the digital economy, the development of sustainable data centers is essential. Renewable energy, combined with the DPPA mechanism, plays a critical role in helping Vietnam attract global cloud and AI investors while ensuring growth aligned with the Government’s low-emission development trajectory.

Mr. Darren Webb, Co-founder and CEO of Evolution Data Centres, shared: “We are very pleased to partner with BIM Energy to ensure EDC’s customers have access to renewable energy at scale - a prerequisite for any global cloud or AI operator in Vietnam. Vietnam is entering a strong growth phase in its data center market, similar to Malaysia and Thailand over the past two years. By combining Vietnam’s natural clean energy advantages with a capable partner like BIM Energy, we believe this is a major opportunity to drive emissions reduction and build sustainable digital infrastructure in the region".
Experts note that Vietnam is emerging as a new data center destination in Southeast Asia. Its advantages in renewable resources, strategic geographic position and young workforce make it a standout on the region’s cloud & AI map.
The partnership model between BIM Energy and EDC demonstrates that Vietnam is taking substantive steps to meet rising electricity demand while ensuring low emissions - a prerequisite for global technology corporations.
If mechanisms such as DPPA continue to be strengthened, Vietnam is expected not only to become a rising data center market, but also a regional green digital infrastructure hub in the coming decade.
BIM Energy - Green capabilities that meet international data center standards
EDC’s selection of BIM Energy reflects the operational capacity, scale and reliability of BIM’s renewable energy system developed over many years.
BIM Energy currently operates more than 500 MW of solar and wind power, generating nearly 1 billion kWh per year, equivalent to the consumption of 300,000 households. Its renewable energy complex in Ninh Thuan - integrating a circular economy model involving salt production, solar power and wind power, is one of the most efficient operational models in Vietnam.

The company has set a target of increasing its operating and under-development renewable energy capacity to at least 1,700 MW by 2027, reaffirming its long-term growth strategy and its role as a key clean energy supplier for Vietnam’s energy transition.
These capabilities align with the needs of large-scale data centers: stable and sizable clean energy sources, compatibility with DPPA procurement models, adherence to ESG standards, and long-term operational efficiency.
Mr. Nguyen Hai Vinh, CEO of BIM Energy, emphasized: “The partnership with Evolution Data Centres is an important step in our strategy to supply clean energy from BIM’s wind and solar power projects to Vietnam’s digital infrastructure. In the near future, BIM Energy expects to expand cooperation with partners purchasing electricity through the DPPA mechanism, thereby diversifying our customer portfolio beyond EVN and enhancing sustainability and autonomy in our business operations.
DPPA presents major opportunities for both buyers and sellers: it helps international businesses meet clean energy standards while ensuring effective operation of renewable energy projects. This is a crucial foundation for Vietnam to attract foreign investment in cloud, AI and sustainable data center development".
BIM Group - Committed to a Long-Term Sustainable Development Vision
Over its 31-year journey, BIM Group has remained committed to a development philosophy built on sustainable values, long-term investment, and respect for the environment and local communities. For BIM, sustainability is not merely an ESG requirement, but a long-standing principle: green investment, circular economy models, harmonious resource utilization and meaningful contribution to national clean energy capacity.
In renewable energy, BIM Group views clean power as a backbone of the future economy and a “strategic puzzle piece” enabling Vietnam to move deeper into global digital value chains. The collaboration with EDC is a testament to this direction: from a developer of solar and wind power assets, BIM Energy is evolving into a clean energy partner for data centers and AI infrastructure - sectors that will shape Vietnam’s competitiveness for decades to come.
